Food Truck Tuesday!

Welcome to Meet Me on Main!

And what better timing for a first post than Food Truck Tuesday -- when the caravan of cuisine convoys into our community.

From 5PM to 10PM, the mobile chefs are at the The Victorian (2612 Main St. at Ocean Park), and parking is usually available in the same lot. There is always a free bicycle valet, too. The proceeds benefit the California Heritage Museum.

Tuesday really is the perfect night for this, too -- after all, you hardly feel like making dinner at home, but it's not quite a dine-out restaurant evening. Maybe that's just me, but then again, other locals seem to have the same idea. We always run into Santa Monicans we know there. But it's not jam packed with interminable lines like the food truck gatherings at Abbot Kinney on weekends. The vibe is more like the mellow lunch crowd who meet the cluster of trucks outside a business complex during lunchtime. So instead of running into your buddy who works at the PR firm upstairs from your office, you meet the couple with the two kids and the labradoodle you hung out with at the dog park.

And the question always asked is: What are you going to eat? Well, before you mill around the lot, staring at the trucks like a zombie at a brain-buffet, the calendar of who'll be there can be found
here
.

You can hardly go wrong. Everything is delicious and photo-worthy, like this banana & chocolate crepe with vanilla ice cream I had a few weeks ago.

I haven't tried all of caterers there tonight (although I plan to), but India Jones is one of my favorites. Get a Frankie (and a lot of napkins). Also, Let's Be Frank is always a safe bet and Chunk N' Chip is the ultimate to be bold with your flavors and still get a safe dessert -- I recommend you see which is their bizarrest of ice cream flavors that night and order it between ginger cookies.
